What Is Cognitive Behavior Therapy?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a widely recognized and highly effective form of talk therapy. It focuses on the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. CBT operates on the principle that our thoughts influence how we feel and act.

By changing negative thought patterns, we can change our behaviors and improve our emotional well-being.

  • Uses positive habit-building exercises and practices and focuses on behavior changes through repetition.
  • Used to treat anxiety, depression, and similar disorders, as well as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

CBT can be as effective as prescriptions for some concerns.

Ready to Transform Your Life with Professional CBT Counselling?

In our counseling sessions, we take the time to carefully explore different aspects of the issues you’re facing. We  include your own perspective, emotions and thoughts surrounding the problem, any physical sensations you may be experiencing, as well as the actions you take before, during, and after the event. We will provide you with some “do-it-yourself” assignments to practice between sessions to help you apply these techniques to address the problem.

We will work together using guided discovery to increase your self-awareness. To help reduce fears and anxiety, we’ll use exposure therapy. Along the way, we’ll also practice breathing and relaxation techniques, stress reduction, meditation, mindfulness exercises, and journal writing. To support your progress, we incorporate techniques like role-playing and guided imagery. These methods can help you visualize more effective behaviors. Additionally, we’ll use behavior modification to help you recognize and adjust patterns in your thoughts and actions for lasting change.

What our customer say

My sessions at BT have been enriching. My counsellor was non-judgmental, emphatic, and knowledgeable, which helped me make sense of what can seem like chaos. The approach was tailored to my needs, allowing for emotional, spiritual, and psychological growth. He adeptly balanced compassion and empathy by identifying themes, causes, and patterns in my thoughts, leaving me feeling productive after each session. His light-hearted sense of humour was a bonus.

“As a medical doctor I am acutely aware of the importance mental health support. Balanced Thinking (BT) provide that kind of support. Call on their staff if you need help.”

” When my dad passed, it felt as if my world had come to a stop. Because he was my best friend at the time. I turned to social media for help but nothing seemed to work. Then I remembered my friend who did CBT and I decided to reach out. That changed everything for me. He was patient, a good listener, and I did feel judged for how I was feeling…cuz men don’t cry, right? Dr. K was instrumental in my grieving journey and the man I am today. He helped me to process my feelings in ways I couldn’t have done on my own. If you’re grieving a loved one and need support to heal, I  highly recommend BT to you.”
